Blue Jays homer blitz sinks Yankees

Jose Bautista hit two towering home runs and Edwin Encarnacion also connected for Toronto as the Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 6-1 in the American League on Friday.
Bautista led off the second with a drive off A.J. Burnett (6-3) that went off the facing of the third deck in left, his career high 17th of the season. He went deep again in the fourth, finding the same area again for a two-run shot.
Encarnacion led off the fifth with his eighth homer, a drive to left-center that gave Toronto a 4-0 lead.
Blue Jays starter Brett Cecil (6-2) matched a career high with eight innings. he allowed one run while improving to 4-0 with a 1.52 ERA in his past four starts.
Rangers 9, Rays 6: In Arlington, rookie Justin Smoak homered and had a career-high three hits as Texas rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Tampa Bay.
Josh Hamilton had a homer and two doubles, while Vladimir Guerrero added a three-run double in his return to the lineup after missing two games because of a swollen left eye.
For Tampa Bay, Ben Zobrist had three hits and Evan Longoria homered.
Rangers starter C.J. Wilson (4-3) recovered from a four-run second to pick up the win, allowing six hits in five-plus innings.
Rays starter Wade Davis (5-5) gave up eight runs, matching a career worst, over 3 1-3 innings.
Twins 5, Athletics 4, 11 innings: In Oakland, Justin Morneau homered and drove in two runs to help Minnesota edge Oakland.
Delmon Young singled in the top of the 11th inning and Jon Rauch pitched the bottom of the inning for his 14th save. Matt Guerrier (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.
A's starter Dallas Braden, winless in five starts since his perfect game on May 9, lasted 6 1/3 innings, giving up four runs.
Royals 7, Tigers 3: In Kansas City, Jason Kendall had three hits and three RBIs to help Kansas City defeat Detroit.
Scott Podsednik went 2 for 3 and scored three times for the Royals, who finished with 13 hits. David DeJesus drove in two runs.
Kansas City's Bruce Chen (2-0) earn his first win as a starter since Aug. 6. Making his second start after ten relief appearances, Chen (2-0) gave up four hits in five-plus innings.
Detroit starter Max Scherzer (2-5), who struck out 14 in his previous start, gave up four runs and two walks in five innings.
Angels 7, Mariners 1: In Seattle, Hideki Matsui homered and drove in three runs as Los Angeles cruised past Seattle.
Angels starter Joe Saunders (4-6) improved to 7-0 in his last 10 starts against Seattle. He permitted nine baserunners in the first five innings but gave up only one run in six innings.
Juan Rivera homered in a three-run seventh as the Angels moved above .500 for the first time since April.
Red Sox 11, Orioles 0: In Baltimore, a change of manager did nothing to improve the fortunes of hapless Baltimore, which was spanked by Boston.
Former third-base coach Juan Samuel was installed as interim manager before the game after Dave Trembley was fired.
Boston's Clay Buchholz (8-3) pitched his second career shutout and third career complete game. He is 5-0 with a 0.99 ERA in his past five starts and has won nine successive starts on the road.
Marco Scutaro homered and scored three runs, while Kevin Youkilis and Adrian Beltre also homered for the Red Sox, who have won six straight on the road.
Indians 10, White Sox 1: In Chicago, Justin Masterson repeatedly escaped trouble to snap an 11-decision losing streak and help Cleveland crush Chicago.
