A senior Shoura (Consultative) Council official has highlighted the great achievements attained by the Kingdom during the reign of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. In an article, on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of King Abdullah's accession to the throne, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Barrak, Assistant Speaker of the Shoura Council, said allegiance is one of the bases of Islamic rule. He noted that allegiance means a pledge between the ruler and the people to establish a regime based on the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah (the Prophet's teachings). “Moreover, the Saudi government has implemented this principle ever since the era of the first Saudi state,” he said. The Allegiance-Pledge Commission was established in 1437H for naming the King and his Crown Prince from the sons and grandsons of King Abdul Aziz, the Kingdom's founder. The anniversary provides a good opportunity to contemplate, revise and amend, Dr. Al-Barrak said. He said King Abdullah is characterized by simplicity and firmness as well as keenness on getting acquainted with the affairs and problems of the people. He pointed out that the Kingdom deserves to be called “the Kingdom of Humanity” due to its generous assistance to fraternal and friendly countries without any form of discrimination. Dr. Al-Barrak pointed out the great role being played by Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General, and Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister, as well as the Princes, ministers, Ulema (Muslim scholars) and all other civil and military officials in the service of their country.
