The Court of Cassation has approved a General Court verdict sentencing four thieves to total of 20 years in jail and 2,200 lashes of the whip. According to a Tuwaiq Police Station statement issued Thursday, the thieves were implicated in stealing SR29,000 in cash and jewelry worth SR35,000 in addition to valuable personal items. The police said a citizen reported a burglary incident to the security authorities concerned at Tuwaiq Police Station which set up a crack CID team to look for the thieves. After a brief search, the security forces succeeded in rounding up the four thieves, who admitted their guilt. The General Court sentenced the first culprit to nine years in prison and 1,000 lashes of the whip, the second to eight years in jail and 800 lashes, the third to three years behind bars and 400 lashes of the whip and the last has been sentenced to 10 months in prison.
