An Egyptian driver died while his sponsor's five-year-old daughter was rescued after their car collided with another vehicle and crashed into concrete barriers before catching fire in the Al-Jaish tunnel in Taif on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said the tunnel filled with smoke and that rescue services managed to extinguish the fire and extract the girl from the wreckage. She was taken to hospital with “minor injuries”, according to a Traffic Police spokesman. The spokesman said that the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, however, attempted to flee the scene, but officials caught up with him and he is now under investigation.
