The Cabinet condemned on Monday the Israeli attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, describing it as an “act of aggression reflecting Israel's inhumane practices and its evident challenge to the whole of the international community and international law and its persistence in starving the Palestinian people and depriving them of aid, as well as the killing of innocent people”. The Cabinet appealed to the international community to “take action against the hostility and barbaric policy of the Israeli occupying forces”. Minister of Culture and Information Abdul Aziz Khoja said that the Cabinet revealed its pride at the Kingdom being selected to assume chairmanship of the consultative committee of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and praised consent for the convening in 2012 of an international conference on the denuclearization of the Middle East given by countries which participated in the revision of the Non-Nuclear Proliferation Treaty.New SASSO regulationsThe Cabinet approved on Monday new regulations enabling the Saudi Arabian Specifications and Standard Organization (SASSO) to “issue Saudi standards specifications and quality regulations in conformity with Islamic Shariah, achieve the interests of the Kingdom and meet the requirements of the World Trade Organization”. The Cabinet said that SASSO was the “authority for all standards and specifications issues in the Kingdom”, as well as being responsible for awarding ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certificates. According to the move, both the government and private sectors are required to comply with Saudi specifications and standards in all their activities.
