In separate incidents, Border Guard patrols in Dhahran Al-Junoub on Saturday seized weapons, ammunition and drugs from six persons attempting to enter the country illegally. A spokesman said that the smugglers were found with approximately 60 pistols, a Kalashnikov machine gun and bullets, along with 219 kg of hashish, eight kg of snuff and 108 bundles of qat. Mujahideen patrols in Jizan, meanwhile, detained two persons of African origin found in possession of 54 blocks of hashish after they opened fire in an attempt to escape the attention of officials. A spokesman said that the two suspects were treated for minor injuries received during an exchange of fire which occurred in a remote mountainous area of Bani Malik. The same day smugglers were found in Bani Malik attempting to bring into the Kingdom 2,417 bundles of qat in six vehicles.
