More small and medium enterprise sectors in the Eastern Province are being identified and firmed up by the Asharqia Chamber of Commerce and Industry to usher better opportunities for small entrepreneurs. Adnan A. Al-Nuaim, secretary general Asharqia Chamber, announced that general membership meetings will be held for three days on June 6-8 to classify and categorize the sectors that will be opened and encouraged. “The meetings will be the first phase of setting up more SMEs sectors that will lead to their formal formation, and at the same time appoint the leaders of each of the sectors,” Al-Nuaim said. He said small Saudi businessmen and entrepreneurs will be encouraged to join the sectors where their establishments fit in. Al-Nuaim said the initial small sectors that will be tabled for discussions during the meetings are bakery business, equipment manufacture and production, agriculture, fisheries, small maritime transports, insurance, financing, and installment. A local entrepreneur who will join an SME sector will be required to present a letter from his company, his position, certificate of registration of the company, brief curriculum vitae, and a copy of the Chamber subscription for the year 2008-10. Asharqia Chamber has already formed 23 major macro business committees. Al-Nuaim said the micro business sectors that will be formed during the meeting will hopefully perk up the growth of more small businesses and encourage more small entrepreneurs to set up their enterprises.
