One of the Kingdom's top human rights officials met with a delegation from the United States' Congress Saturday to discuss areas of mutual concern and human rights issues. Dr. Bandar Bin Muhammad Al-Aiban, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) met with the US delegation at his office in Riyadh. The delegation consisted of senior advisers and assistants to the congressmen. During the meeting, Al-Aiban lauded the relations between the two countries and also highlighted the efforts made by the Kingdom to boost and protect human rights through various pieces of legislation. Al-Aiban also highlighted the strategy approved by King Abdullah to spread a human rights culture in the country. He said the Islamic Shariah forms the nucleus of human rights in Islam. These laws are applied without and fear or favor for both residents and citizens, said Al-Aiban. The US delegation referred to the international initiatives launched by King Abdullah, including the Arab peace initiative and interfaith dialogue which calls for peaceful coexistence between all human races. The delegation also praised the decisions taken by the country to preserve and protect human rights and to combat human trafficking.
