With places filling up fast the organizers of the FG1000 championship look to the GCC's largest nation for drivers aiming to reach the very top level of motor racing. “We have drivers signed up to race next season from the UAE and Kuwait,” said Barry Hope, Race Director, GulfSport Racing, the organizer of the FG1000 championship. “When the lights go out to start the first race of next season, I really want a Saudi national competing for the region's very first single-seater championship. They will have then taken the first step on the long road to Formula 1.” GulfSport are targeting Saudi Arabia's popular karting scene in the search for the region's best racers. The championship is limited to drivers between the ages of 15 and 25, so karting is an ideal starting point for racers keen to reach the heights of Formula 1. The cars, which are built in the UK, will be some of the fastest racers seen in the region when the championship kicks off at the Dubai Autodrome in October. Based on a popular layout from Europe and the US, the FG1000 car features full FIA safety systems, adjustable aerodynamics, slick tyres and a powerful engine. The races will also visit the famous Abu Dhabi Yas Marina circuit, the location of the UAE's F1 race. The championship is also planning to race at other circuits around the region. “Saudi Arabia has a better chance of producing the region's first F1 driver simply because it has the largest population,” said Hope. “It is also a very young, vibrant nation, keen to explore new opportunities, especially in the sporting arena.” Young drivers interested in entering the FG1000 championship should check out HYPERLINK “http://www.fg1000.net” www.fg1000.net for more information.
