Makkah Health Affairs is investigating claims by the father of a seven-month-old girl that a private hospital gave his daughter an injection which induced spasms and nearly led to her death. The complaint brought by Riyadh Al-Eid, an Arab resident of the Kingdom, said that no proper medical analysis was conducted before the injection was administered to the infant's artery. According to Al-Eid his daughter Miyar had been suffering from a high temperature and vomiting when she was given an injection of potassium chloride which, however, led to spasms and her skin turning blue. “I grabbed her from the nurse and rushed her down to the emergencies department,” Al-Eid said. “She was struggling to breathe.” Miyar was then given oxygen and returned to her normal condition. Al-Eid is asking that the nurse be investigated over the incident and is also seeking compensation for the “mental anguish” caused by the incident to himself and his family. “The error could have led to her death,” Al-Eid said. A Health Affairs spokesman said the complaint had been received and that records of Miyar's treatment were being looked into.
