The Kingdom is fighting the scourge of narcotics in all its forms, Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has reiterated. Prince Naif, who is also Chairman of the National Committee for Narcotics Control, said narcotics “are the worst scourge in the world and in all societies”. In a statement after presiding over the committee's 2nd meeting here on Saturday evening, Prince Naif said King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has directed to work hard to eradicate this scourge and to protect the society from its dangers. “Our society is being targeted. Unreasonable quantities of hashish and heroin, the worst kinds of narcotics reach the Kingdom, in the from of capsules and Captagon and other harmful drugs are reaching the Kingdom in disturbing quantities,” the Prince said. “We are being targeted by various parties for profits and for corrupting our society,” Prince Naif added calling on all families to cooperate with the state and the concerned authorities to protect the society from this scourge. We must prevent reaching of narcotics to any person at all cost, he said. “But if these (drugs) reach him, he should be treated and restored back to lead a normal life,” the Prince said. Prince Naif emphasized that sentences passed by judges should be deterrent for smugglers, recipients and promoters of narcotics in various types, calling on the media to launch useful awareness programs in this regard. The Prince said he has discussed with the President of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare and the Minister of Social Affairs the establishment of clubs in all the provinces of the Kingdom. These clubs would be beneficial for the youth who could pass their leisure time in constructive ways, he said.
