Private school teachers do not have salary scales like government teachers because they are not subject to State rules, according to a senior education official. Muhammad Bin Eid Al-Otaibi, Director of Private Education at the Ministry of Education, informed Okaz that the ministry does not intervene in matters pertaining to salary and allowances given to teachers working at private schools. He made the remarks at the conclusion of a meeting of directors of the Administration for Private and Foreign Education held in Taif Thursday night. He stressed that the ministry is making efforts to upgrade the standards, efficiency and financial position of teachers. He said that the Ministry of Education makes it obligatory for private schools to work out an internal system defining the rights and duties of staff and workers at these schools. He said private education is taking steps to achieve its goals. About the annual financial subsidy given to private schools, he said the leadership supports private education in a number of ways, including the provision of textbooks. He said the financial aid given to schools is governed by the school's grade and number of students attending. Private schools are also given loans to build their premises, to help secure an appropriate education environment. He said private schools are assessed according to their educational environment, extracurricular activities, programs, standard of students and discipline.
