Grade 12 CBSE RESULTS
By Shahid Ali Khan and Afifa Jabeen Quraishi
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 22 - 05 - 2010

Students from the international Indian schools in Saudi Arabia affiliated to the New Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have performed well in the 2009-10 Grade 12 results declared Friday.
Zaina Hamid and S. Sumita of the International Indian School Dammam (IISD) bagged the first position in the Kingdom both with 94.6 percent; Subia Rashid Uz Zaman of the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) came second with 94.4 percent while Jubal Jacob Kurudamannil of the International Indian School Riyadh came third scoring 94.2 percent.
However, school toppers in the previous years have scored 95 percent and above.
Of the 1,321 students who appeared for the CBSE Grade 12 exams from the three main schools, 38 failed while 83 were placed in compartment, meaning that they failed in one subject.
In the overall pass percentage, IISJ fared well with 99.8 percent followed by IISD with 99.1 percent and IISR with 94.47 percent.
Describing the school's results as the “best in the history of IISJ”, Salah Karadan, chairman of the IISJ managing committee, said: “This is because of the combined efforts of the dedicated teachers, hard working students, excellent parental support and overall support from the principal, vice-principal and the managing committee. Also, the study camps that we held for students appearing for the board exams helped them in achieving this great result.”
Of the 404 IISJ students who appeared for the exam, 386 passed, 18 were placed in compartment and one failed, while of the 428 IISD students who sat the exam, 398 passed, 21 were placed in compartment and four failed. The number of students from IISR was 489, of whom 462 passed, 27 failed and 44 were placed in compartment.
Manzar Jamal Siddiqui, IISR principal, said the school registered a two percent increase in the overall pass percentage compared to last year.
Ahmed Imthias, IISR managing committee chairman, said IISR has done “comparatively well if 33 failures in 2008-2009 are considered, although the number of failures in 2009-2010 is a bit disappointing,” he said.
IISD, reputed to be the best performing CBSE school in Saudi Arabia, saw a drop in its pass percentage this year with four failures.
Saudi Gazette could not reach IISD principal Shafi Muhammad for his comments.
According to a press statement, the IISD girls have performed well in both the Science and Commerce streams in the Kingdom. The first three school toppers from IISD are Zaina Hamid (94.6 percent), S. Sumitha, (94.6 percent), Russell Mariano S. Colaco (94.4 percent) and Chithra Satheedevi (94 percent).
The three top students from IISJ are Subia Rashid Uz Zaman (94.4 percent), Monisa Madeen (92.2 percent), Sumaiya Zubair (90.4 percent) and the top three students from IISR include Jubal Jacob Kurudamannil (94.2 percent), Sameera (94 percent) and Syed Raziuddin (93.6 percent).
