Prince Turki Bin Faisal Bin Turki Al-Saud, Vice President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation for International Organizations, was elected as primary vice president of the regional bureau of Asia-Pacific within Airports Council International (ACI). Prince Turki's nomination for the top post came during a ACI Asia-Pacific Airports Council meeting that concluded Monday. Prince Turki represented the Kingdom upon an invitation from the ACI, Geneva. The Saudi delegation also took part in the 8th meeting of the executive committee of the regional bureau of Asia-Pacific. The meetings discussed a number of essential issues related to civil aviation sector, most importantly of which was the influence of the global economic crisis upon civil aviation industry and ways to tackle the problem. The Geneva-based Airports Council International (ACI) is one of the most important international organizations specialized in the field of civil airports. ACI was founded in 1992 with about 550 memberships of foundations managing some 1,600 airport in almost 170 countries. One of the main ACI objectives is to develop airport operations in various participating countries and ensure the availability of international standards and norms related to safety and security, as well as to ensure the quality of the services provided. The ACI holds a number of periodical conferences, seminars and workshops in different countries. It is also responsible for the annual assessment of airports.
