More than 100 laborers gathered at the Labor Office here to complain about their company which has allegedly not paid their salaries for nine months. Abdul Aziz Al-Mezaini, the director of the Labor Office, would not comment on the protest. Sources said they expected that there would be as many as 200 workers affected by the labor dispute. The laborers walked for more than 20 km from their worksite to the Labor Office to stage the protest. Officials at the office summoned a senior staff member from the company, who proceeded to try to convince the laborers to resume work. He promised to pay them all their dues within 10 days. The laborers said they have been starving because they have not been paid for the past nine months.
