The mayoralty in Jizan has registered 156 cases of people who have contracted dengue fever over the past four months. Issam Bin Salim Breik, Acting Mayor of the region, also announced that over 6,000 mosquito breeding grounds, considered a source of the disease, have been found all over the region. Breik said the mayoralty is currently carrying out a plan to control the breeding grounds. This is to reduce the swarms of mosquitoes that carry dengue fever. This three-pronged plan is based on good surveillance, the safe combat of the disease carriers and appropriate awareness campaigns. He said a basic factor in successfully tackling the situation was to ensure that the health authorities correctly diagnose the disease. Breik said the mayoralty has deployed over 500 trained technicians, 200 insecticide spraying vehicles and 60 field teams from a number of subsidiary municipalities. As part of its program, the mayoralty identified and tackled areas where there was a dense gathering of mosquito breeding grounds. Both fully grown mosquitoes and larvae were killed.
