The Gulf Press Association (GPA) is holding its General Conference and General Assembly on May 19 and 20 at the Diplomat Hotel in Manama with over 60 editors-in-chief, academics and press specialists scheduled to take part. “The great response from association members and invitees shows the significance of the conference to journalism in the Arabian Gulf as well as members' commitment to the issues up for discussion,” said GPA Secretary General Nassir Al-Othman. The conference will hold a symposium entitled “The Gulf press in international organizations' reports”, while the General Assembly will discuss a project to establish a new research and studies department. “The GPA has assigned an expert analyst to prepare a resume of the project and all the details will be finalized once approval has been received from the General Assembly,” Al-Othman said. Al-Othman added that during the event, which will be attended by Bahraini Minister of Culture and Information Shaikha Mai Bint Muhammad Aal Khalifa, a conference hall at the hotel will have on display a gallery of the “founders and pioneers of the press in Bahrain who were honored by the association last January”.
