Sweden's Peter Hanson shrugged off a one-shot penalty to win the Mallorca Open Sunday, beating Spain's Alejandro Canizares in a playoff. It was Hanson's third European Tour title, but it came in controversial circumstances after he was penalized for a double hit after chipping at the 12th hole. He was two behind with four to play, but responded well to birdie the 15th and 17th holes to finish level with Canizares who bogeyed the first extra hole. Hanson and Canizares had both shot 66 to finish on six under par after four rounds, four clear of South Africa's James Kingston while overnight leaders Pelle Edberg and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano slumped to four over par 74s to finish six shots off the lead. He was shown the double-hit incident on the completion of his round and commented: “It looks strange, but of course it was a double hit. The ball went down and then I hit it again.” Four share lead First-round leader Matt Jones of Australia bogeyed his last hole Saturday to slip into a four-way tie for the lead at the halfway mark of the rain-hit Texas Open at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio. Jones, who posted a 66 in Thursday's opening round, came back after Friday's rainout and shot one-under-par 71 for a seven-under 137 total he shared with compatriot James Nitties and Americans Brett Wetterich and Jimmy Walker. The course was drenched by 3.15 inches of rain Friday when play was officially postponed for the day. Overnight rain made for a soaking of nearly five inches in the 24-hour period. Nitties registered five birdies in a flawless round of 67 to match the score posted by Walker. Wetterich had a see-saw day of seven birdies and three bogeys for 68. Twenty-eight players are within four shots of the lead. Players will go off split tees in groups of three Sunday in the hope of getting in all 36 remaining holes of the tournament. Seven players were tied on six under par, including Australian Aron Price, South African Garth Mulroy and US Ryder Cup player J.B. Holmes. Moving into contention was world No. 7 Ernie Els of South Africa, the top-ranked player in the field, who shot 68 for five-under-par 139. Zach Johnson rebounded from a miserable opening round to shoot 68 but missed the cut due to his first-round 80. Pak leads Bell Classic In Alabama, South Korea's Pak Se-ri shot a six-under 66 Friday to take a one-shot lead over Brittany Lincicome and Wendy Ward at the $1.3 million LPGA Bell Micro Classic. Pak rolled in five birdies in a six-hole stretch on her final nine holes to top the second-round leaderboard at nine under on The Crossings course. Many of the players wore purple ribbons and wristbands with “EB” and a heart honoring Erica Blasberg, a 25-year-old tour player who was found dead in Las Vegas Sunday. The clubhouse flag was also at half-staff. Ward had the low round with a 65, six strokes better than her opening round. Lincicome came out quickly with birdies on six of her opening seven holes, but closed with a bogey on the final hole.
