The General Court has sentenced an Asian housemaid to death for the murder four months ago of her 60-year-old sponsor in the city's Al-Khalidiya District. The wheelchair-bound victim was reportedly praying when her housemaid struck her with a large knife and left the house to hail a taxi in the street. A policeman, however, approached her when he saw her not wearing an abaya and believed she was in need of assistance, but when he noticed blood stains on her clothes he took her to a local police station where she confessed to the crime and told investigators that the attack was motivated by “revenge”. Police later revealed that the victim had attempted to call her daughter at work after the attack, but the call went unanswered. She then called her driver who informed the daughter, but by the time she arrived, her mother had passed away.
