Police are investigating suspected foul play behind the drowning of a 20-year-old woman of Arab nationality in a Jizan valley near Al-Arida governorate. An autopsy indicated that the woman was physically abused. She had scars all over her body and a rope around her neck. According to the forensic report, the woman's skull was fractured and her nose showed signs of bleeding. Her shoulder joints were found to be displaced. The report also stated that the physical abuse of the woman took place 12 hours prior to her drowning, ruling out accidental drowning. The body was taken to the Jizan General Hospital. Lt. Col. Awad Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Jizan Police Department, said that an investigation is under way. Capt. Yahya Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Civil Defense in Jizan, said that they received a report of a woman who had drowned in a Jizan valley swamp Thursday morning. The case has been referred to the police for suspected foul play, he said.
