The Pakistan Welfare Society celebrated its fourth anniversary by providing free medical services to local residents last night. Ten male doctors and three female doctors covering all medical specialties volunteered their services to treat those with medical problems, particularly Pakistanis. Free medical camps were set up in different cities, including Madina, Makkah, Taif and Jeddah. “These medical camps have served thousands of patients in the last four years,” Dr. Khaleel-ur-Rahman, President of the Welfare Society, said in a meeting arranged by the Pakistan Consulate General chaired by Counsel General Abdul Salik Khan. These camps extend free medical services from Wednesday evening until Friday dispensing free medicine worth thousands of riyals. Dr. Khaleel said that the society was highly grateful for the support of generous persons who finance its expenditures. Ultra sound equipment worth SR 50,000 was recently donated to the society, and medical equipment for the treatment of eye diseases and surgery has also been donated. All medical investigations are conducted with modern equipment which helps in diagnosing and treating diseases, Dr. Khaleel said. The society conducts seminars in local schools on health care services. It has also started a campaign against smoking, informing people of the dangers involved and the diseases caused by this unhealthy activity. Counsel General Khan addressing the meeting said that volunteers are the heroes of the Pakistan community. Their service is highly appreciated, and there is no doubt that not only Pakistanis but many others are unable to get treatment for their medical problems because of their low incomes. The society offered a shield to Maqbool Ahmad Taj for his generous service to the Welfare Society particularly in the field of health care.
