King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has approved a series of decisions by the Higher Education Council, including the establishment of three new colleges at the Islamic University in Madina, the restructuring of some sections of King Abdulaziz University in Rabegh, and appointments of academic staff. Kahled Al-Anqari, Minister of Higher Education, said the approvals would see new Science, Computer Science and Data System, and Engineering colleges at the Islamic University in Madina. Some departments and colleges at King Abdulaziz University in Rabegh will, according to Al-Anqari, be restructured, while its Faculty of Science will see a name change to the Faculty of Art. Also approved, Al-Anqari said, is the restructuring of the Faculty of Medicine and Applied Medical Sciences in Hail, with the faculty now to be divided into two separate colleges – the Medicine College and the Applied Medical Sciences College. The existing Medical Sciences Departments have been approved for conversion into independent departments affiliated to the Applied Medical Sciences College. The departments will include the Medical Laboratories Department, the Diagnostic X-Ray Department, the Therapeutic Nutrition Department and the Physiotherapy Department. Al-Anqari said that King Abdullah also approved the Higher Education Council's move to open new sections at some universities, including the Medical Emergency Department in Dammam, a new legal section at the Shariah College in Dammam, and the Clinical Nutrition section at the Faculty of Applied Medical Science at Taiba University in Madina. The King also approved the renewal for three years of Zuhair Bin Abdullah Damnohuri as Deputy President for Development at King Abdulaziz University, and the appointment of Badr Bin Ahmad Habiballah as Deputy President of Umm Al-Qura University branches for three years.
