The Saudi Football Federation (SFF) has decided to raise the number of teams in all three of its divisions. This was announced by Prince Sultan Bin Fahd, President, General Presidency of Youth Welfare (GPYW) and President of SFF Tuesday. The move, which does not include youth teams, was included in the new Basic Law which was approved by the SFF Board of Directors Tuesday and it will be submitted to FIFA. The Zain League – the Saudi premier division which is due to begin on Aug. 14 – will now have 14 teams instead of 12, and the two lower league (the First Division and the Second Division) will have 16 and 20 competitors respectively. According to the new Basic Law, Zain League teams can register squads of 30 players containing a maximum of three foreigners - or four with an additional Asian player. Squad replacements or additions may only be made during the second registration period. The first period is before the commencement of the league. The SFF also announced that Saudi teams will not be taking part in the next Gulf Clubs Championship due to the commitments of clubs and the national team in next season's international competitions.
