A source at the Saudi Embassy in Pakistan has said it has no confirmation of media reports that villagers in Toba Tek Singh killed eight thieves who had held hostage and robbed two families of Saudi origin. The source said that it was unlikely that families of Saudi origin were in the area, but added that the embassy was investigating the incident. Geo TV Pakistan reported early Monday that villagers killed the thieves in self-defense after a shootout, citing police reports that eight robbers in two cars held one family hostage and robbed them before moving on to another house where four persons were held. The report said that villagers arrived after hearing gunshots and that eight of the armed robbers were killed in the following shootout.
