Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, the Emir of Jizan, will launch the region's Mango Festival on Tuesday. He said mangoes are considered an important cash crop in the region. The festival is being held in Abu Areesh for five days. Prince Muhammad predicted that Jizan will see a boom in tourism because of investment in Amna and Farasan islands. Dr. Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al-Suwayyid, Undersecretary at Jizan Emirate and Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Mango Festival, said the festival is meant to acquaint people with mangoes grown in the Kingdom. He said the fruit has become a symbol of agriculture in Jizan. Previous festivals have been a success, he added. Rustum Al-Kibeisi, Executive Director of Tourism Administration in Jizan, said the festival includes several programs, activities and exhibitions in which several government and non-governmental bodies are taking part. He said one of the objectives of the festival is to promote investment opportunities in the region. This is the only region in the Kingdom known for growing mangoes. He said the festival is also meant to enhance tourism and cultural and economic activities in the region. The festival will also display bee products. Jizan is considered a food-growing region because of its fertile soil.
