A Saudi in the town of Badna was taken aback to receive an envelope last week containing money and a handwritten letter apologizing for the theft of his son's mobile telephone four years ago. The letter, which had been handed to the man's driver anonymously, enclosed a sum of money purportedly “matching the value of the stolen item” and asked that the victim “forgive him (the thief) for what he had done”, claiming it had left him “feeling guilty all these years”. The recipient of the letter, meanwhile, said that he had “completely forgotten about the whole thing”.
