A 20-km chase involving checkpoint police and a driver attempting to head for the hills of Al-Mujarada led to the discovery of a Somali couple hidden in the trunk of his vehicle. The car was stopped by checkpoint officials but when they asked to inspect the trunk the driver jumped back in the car and sped off, prompting a chase during which the driver abandoned his vehicle and attempted to continue his flight on foot. Police eventually caught up with him and ordered him to open the trunk where they discovered the husband and wife in a state of exhaustion from intense heat and lack of oxygen. The driver confessed that he had been paid to transport the couple, both illegal residents in the Kingdom, from Asir to Jeddah, and all three were taken into custody for investigation.
