Warda Muhammad Yusuf, who survived the disaster spoke about what happened on Friday. “I was sitting in the hall of my house and in a matter of seconds the whole building shook. I did not realize what had happened. It was completely dark and there was thick dust in every direction. I remained in the same position for about ten minutes without understanding what had happened. Then I heard voices calling. I tried to reply, but my efforts were in vain. I was dumbstruck and could not utter a word for more than an hour. At some point I saw a small beam of light coming from above.” “It was the Civil Defense men who removed me from under the rubble. I felt pain in my left arm, foot and back. When I was rescued I thought of my children. I learnt of the death of my youngest, Rayyan, 2, while Allah saved Abdullah, Zahra and Badriah for me,” Warda said. Adiyyah Muhammad Noor, another survivor, said: “I was standing in my kitchen when suddenly all the walls around me collapsed. I fell onto the floor and was trapped under a large quantity of rubble and sand. I was shouting. I could hear voices. After nearly three hours I was removed from under the debris. I couldn't move because of pain to my lower back. The doctors discovered it was a fracture of the pelvis.” The young boy Abdullah Sido also made it out alive. “I was playing with my sister Zahra. Suddenly, something happened and I when I looked behind me I couldn't see her. I was surprised by the thick dust and there was a hole in the house. Within seconds the whole house collapsed. I did not realize what was happening around me. I could hear voices coming from above me, but I couldn't see anything. There was darkness and rocks and sand falling on me. All I know is that my younger brother Rayyan has traveled to Allah.”
