The Mayoralty here has reiterated its ban on selling Zamzam and increased its field inspections in a campaign to prevent it being sold in streets and shops inside and outside the city. Despite the ban, the water continues to be sold on the street and in gas stations on the Makkah-Jeddah and Jeddah-Taif Assail roads, said director of the Mayoralty's Commercial Supervision Department Sulaiman Al-Muhaimeed. He said jerry cans of water that are sold on the street and claimed to be Zamzam may, in fact, be filled with other water. Al-Muhaimeed said the mayoralty has requested regional municipalities – including those in rural areas – to increase monitoring, adding that confiscated jerry cans of water will be destroyed and those selling them will be forced to sign undertakings, and if violations are repeated, vehicles carrying the jerry cans will be impounded for one month. He added additional measures will be implemented in order to eliminate the problem.
