The first major showing of television emerged at New York's Expo in 1939 along with the tape recorder and television camera. Osaka's Expo in 1970, the first of five for Japan, was the largest of its time with 77-country participants and 64 million visitors. Shanghai officials said they would learn from Japan's experience as the country has held the most World Expos among Asian countries to date.
