The Australian government has commended the activities of the biggest Saudi cattle-breeding project located in Al-Shumaisi, 25 km from Makkah. At a recent event held in Bahrain under the patronage of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region, investors in over 30 cattle from from the Mideast and North Africa took part. “The Al-Shumaisi project is considered the first among in the world to make transition toward a big quality,” said Salman Al-Jabiri, head of Al-Shumaisi Project's Board Council Management. According to Al-Jabiri, the most advanced breeding ways have been used in the project. Several experts from Australia, South America, China, North Africa, and International Health Association have visited the project and commended its activities. “We imported more than 700 cattle such as camels, sheep and cows annually to overcome the Kingdom's need, especially since we consume more meat than others in the region. That's why we had more than 500 poultry farms where most advanced technology is used,” Said Al-Jabiri. Kim Chance, Australian Minister of Agriculture, who took part in the Bahrain event, lauded the Al-Shumaisi project and said it was playing an important role in improving animal resources in the Kingdom. Australia usually exports more than a million sheep annually. About 60 percent of these imported sheep are from Al-Shumaisi project. __
