The Center of Research Excellence in Renewable Energy at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) will hold the 5th Renewable Energy and Solar Energy Technology workshop on Saturday at the university's conference building. S.U. Rahman, Assistant Director of the Center and Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at KFUPM told Saudi Gazette that the Center of Research Excellence in Renewable Energy is a Saudi national research center established by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2007. The aim of the center is to further scientific and technological development in the major areas of renewable energy with an emphasis on solar energy. In addition, the center strives to increase public awareness and eventually plans to cater to the renewable energy industry. He said that the workshop on renewable energy will be another addition to the center's efforts. The workshop will feature speakers from some of the foremost organizations in the world working in the area of renewable energy. The workshop also aims to provide technical information to people interested in the area of photovoltaics and solar thermal applications. Prof. Ali Sayigh, Chairman, World Renewable Energy Network/ Congress UK; Prof. Larry Kazmerski from the Directory of the National Center for Photovoltaics, USA; and Tony Book, Chairman Riomay Ltd., UK will give lectures.
