The president of the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) has said that specialists studying sites for new dams along the Wadi Qouz flood course will make their conclusions known within three weeks. Zuhair Nawwab said that locations for dams in two valleys, Muhriq and Mushouq, were also under examination and that studies are expected to be finished within six weeks. “The final decision to build the dams rests with the Jeddah Mayor's Office which will receive the studies upon completion,” said Nawwab, whose tenure as SGS president was recently extended by a Royal Decree for another four years. Nawwab, former deputy minister for mineral resources, replaced Muhammad Tawfiq, who was the president of SGS since its inception. Earlier, Nawaab was adviser to the minister of petroleum and minerals and a member of SGS' board of directors.
