Jeddah International School Tennis Club (JISTC) was made to work hard up to the third set, before finally beating a stubborn Enjaz-Magic to bag the championship in Category B2 of the second Al-Baik Tennis Challenge 2010 Women's Division, being played at the tennis courts of the Jeddah International School (JIS).
In the semifinals for Category B1, Danube Dynamics ousted Enjaz-Magics 2-1, as the other bracket saw JIS-Dodie edging out KAMC with a similar score.
With the tandem of the Rissa Lacsina and Donna Martinez bowing to the pair of Weng Valencia and Donna of Enjaz Magics in a gruelling tie-breaker in the first set at 7-8 (1-7), host JISTC showed the class of champion, as an undaunted Bevs Osteria was unforgiving in outclassing Jhoy Sarabia at 8-2 in the second set singles, to level the series at one-all. In the decisive third set, the JISTC pair of Lilian Sy and Joy Farren proved steadier and subdued the tough Enjaz Magic's pair Levi Apacionado and Gina Perez via a hard-earned and bitterly-contested 8-7 (9-7) tie-breaker, to deliver the crown for JISTC as team champions for the Women's Division – B2 category.
In the semifinals of the B1 category, Danube Dynamics advanced to the final by winning 2-1 over Enjaz-Magic (8-0, 7-8, 8-5). Poised to sweep the title in straight sets, Danube Dynamics Rhoda Bangit lost the singles to Enjaz Magic's Nadia, in a punishing marathon match that ended in a 7-8 (4-7) tie-breaker. The other bracket of the semifinals, saw JISTC-Dodie strolling past KAMC, which defaulted the crucial third set, and handed JISTC-Dodie the win at 2-1, that set JISTC-Dodie, the finals showdown with Danube Dynamics.
In the remaining categories of the women's division, the end of the elimination round listed JISTC as the top team, followed by KAMC at second position. Third position was taken by MEEC, while Enjaz-Magics grabbed the last semis berth at fourth. In the Lower Mix (LMX) category, JISTC again secured the No. 1 position, followed by Enjaz-Magics at No. 2, with KAMC and Gatorade-SCTC nailing the third and fouth positions respectively.
In the Higher Mix (HMX) category, JISTC-Rissa led the pack, followed by Sarawat at No. 2, while No. 3 and 4 positions were occupied by KAMC and JIS-Miles, in that order. The semifinal series will pit the No.1 ranked versus the fourth; and the second ranked against the third, where the winners will advance to the finals.
Organized and managed by the Association of Tennis Clubs (ASTEC) Jeddah, this tournament is supported by Al-Baik Chicken as the main sponsor, under the aegis of Bassam Al-Seyofi (PR Manager) and Ed Cabiedes (Area Manager). Co-sponsors are Prince/Deltaz, Al-Enjaz, MetroBank (Philippines) & the Filipino Channel (TFC). __
