A woman will stand before the District Court in Al-Ahsa on May 3 charged with causing serious damage to her six-month-old stepdaughter by pouring chemicals into her eyes. The mother of baby Anwar said two months ago that the woman – her husband's second wife – committed the act after the two had had an argument. Anwar was kept in hospital for 14 days where a medical report stated that a chemical detergent had been poured into her eyes. Hussein Al-Nasser, an uncle of Anwar, said Thursday that the child had been suffering from “serious complications in both eyes” and that the mother was resolved to pursue the case. “Anwar's father decided not to press charges against his wife when the incident was reported,” Al-Nasser said. Saudi Gazette reported on Feb. 15 that a 29-year-old woman had been detained on charges of throwing bleach on the infant girl. Al-Jafar Police said they were informed by an Al-Ahsa hospital that a six-month-old child had been admitted with burns to the face, and investigators were told by Anwar's natural mother that an argument between her and her husband's other wife had provoked the incident.
