A house collapse triggered by a storm in northern India killed 13 laborers and injured over a dozen on Sunday, officials said. At least 13 laborers were buried under piles of rubble in booming suburb of Gurgaon, south of the Indian capital New Delhi, which has become a hub for new condos and office buildings. Around 16 injured laborers were being treated in a hospital, police said. Police said the collapse was triggered by a midnight storm that lashed Haryana state. The accident took place when the portions of a wall they were constructing collapsed on them, police said. “The victims lived in huts adjacent to a construction site,” said Srikrishan Murari, a senior police officer. Gurgaon city official Rakesh Gupta warned the toll could rise, the Press Trust of India news agency reported. The wall that collapsed was about 20 feet tall, Gupta told PTI.
