No English team in semis MANCHESTER – The final four of the Champions League won't feature an English team for the first time since 2003 after Bayern Munich ousted Manchester United, while Lyon reached its maiden semifinal by eliminating Bordeaux. Bayern will play Lyon after both advanced despite losing the second legs of their quarterfinals, relying on victories last week. There have been three English teams in the semifinals of the competition for the past three seasons. Bayern's 2-1 advantage had been wiped out inside seven minutes at Old Trafford after goals from Darron Gibson and Nani, who scored again in the 41st. But Ivica Olic pulled one back for Bayern before halftime and teammate Arjen Robben scored in the 74th to give Germany its first semifinalist since 2002. United defender Rafael da Silva was sent off in the 50th minute after receiving a second yellow card. Lyon advanced 3-2 on advantage after losing 1-0 at Bordeaux. Marouane Chamakh scored right on halftime for Bordeaux. Bayern hosts Lyon in the first leg on April 21, with the return leg six days later in France. In the other semifinal, Inter Milan hosts Barcelona on April 20 and plays in Spain eight days later. The final of club football's biggest competition is May 22 in Madrid. Van Gaal praises Robben Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal praised Arjen Robben for his stunning goal that took his side into the semifinals on Wednesday, and left Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson fuming. Dutchman Robben's rocket-like volley from the edge of the box on 74 minutes brought the score on the night back to 3-2 and 4-4 on aggregate which was enough to see Bayern qualify on the away goals rule. “The goal from Robben was unbelievable,” said van Gaal. “The first half wasn't very good and we had to improve. It's incredible what we did in the second half – we played fantastically.” Ferguson accused Bayern of getting defender Rafael sent off early in the second half and said that if that had not have happened, United would have gone through. “The key point in the game was red card. No doubt about it,” he told ITV.” “They would never have got through if we'd had 11 on the field. Young boy, bit of inexperience. They got him sent off. Everyone sprinted towards the referee – typical Germans. You cannot dispute that, they are like that.” Rooney hurts ankle again Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney re-injured his right ankle Wednesday, a week after being hurt in the first leg. Ferguson gambled on Rooney's fitness despite initially being ruled for up to three weeks, and the England international is in doubt for Sunday's Premier League match against Blackburn. “I don't think he will be in contention Sunday (against Blackburn),” Ferguson said. “But he should be available the week after (against Manchester City.)” Having relegated Dimitar Berbatov to the bench, Rooney helped set up Darron Gibson and Nani's goals inside the opening seven minutes.
