Police in Taif detained 27 persons of various nationalities on Monday in campaigns to clamp down on illegal immigrants and persons living in breach of residency and labor laws. Surprise raids were conducted at several locations in the east Taif town of Al-Atif, bringing the number of individuals detained over the last two weeks in the region to over 100. Officials said that in the same period 28 persons had also been held for begging at shopping areas and mosques.
