A court here has given a woman who took painkillers during pregnancy the choice between three months in prison or memorizing three parts of the Qur'an in 180 days. The woman was taken to court accused of attempted suicide after taking 46 pills without a doctor's prescription while pregnant, pills which the defendant said she had been taking around-the-clock for headaches, denying any wish to commit suicide. The convicted lady and her unborn child are said to be in good health.
