The Madina Municipal Council wants to know from the Madina Mayoralty what has happened to the SR300 million that was earmarked for the creation and maintenance of public parks and walkways across the city. There has been “very slow progress” made to complete these projects, a council member said during a meeting Monday night. The council recommended an urgent study of the stalled park and walkway projects in the city over the past three years. The meeting concluded that there was no adequate reconciliation between the funds earmarked and the quality of the projects produced. The council members called for a well-designed irrigation system for the city's parks and for the use of completed park projects that are not operational yet. The city still needs more green spaces along the main city roads and public recreational areas, the members agreed. The council called on the Madina Mayoralty to engage chiefs of districts in the planning of their neighborhoods and to set up a large public park to accommodate the increasing numbers of visitors to the Prophet's City. The council also recommended that large private farms within the city limits be bought and converted into public parks.
