e-Osmania Jeddah and the Indian Cultural Society Jeddah (ICSJ), organizations of Indian expatriates involved in social work for over two decades, last week distributed about 12,000 used International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) textbooks for free to needy students and parents. “About 16,000 books were collected of which 4,000 had to be discarded because of their bad condition,” said the groups' president Arif Quraishi, adding that old uniforms, bags and shoes were also distributed. Parents came from as far as Makkah and Taif to collect books for their children. The distribution took place at a local restaurant on a first-come-first-serve basis. The textbook collection drive took place last month wherein parents and students were urged through newspaper announcements and poster campaigns to donate textbooks at certain locations in Jeddah.
