A high level team from the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) led by Anshu Vaish, Educational Secretary of the government of India, will visit the International Indian School, Dammam (IISD) on Tuesday. The other members in the high profile delegation include CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi and three educational officers Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Sugandh Sharma, and Dr. Srijata Das. According to IISD Principal Dr. E.K. Mohammed Shaffe, “This is the first time such high ranking officials from the Education Department of the Government of India and the Central Board of Secondary Education have visited the Kingdom.” “This visit provides an ideal opportunity for parents, students and teachers in the Indian community to meaningfully interact, discuss, and learn about the latest trends, changes, and reforms being brought about by the CBSE in the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, especially the school based evaluation - the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and the Grading System,” Dr. Shaffe said. He added that for the purpose of the CCE, an academic year is divided into two terms - April to September and October to March. The CCE in Classes IX and X is intended to provide a profile of the learner through evaluation of both scholastic and non-scholastic areas spread over two terms each during two academic years. Each term will have two Formative Assessments and one Summative Assessment for Evaluation of Scholastic Areas. In addition to the scholastic areas, co-scholastic areas, such as life skills, attitudes and values, participation and achievement in activities involving literacy and creative skills, scientific skills, aesthetic skills, performing arts and clubs, and health and physical education will also be evaluated. The CBSE chairman and the education officers will conduct an intensive workshop on CCE at IIS Dammam for teachers of Class IX and X from the CBSE affiliated International Schools in the Eastern Province. Over 125 teachers from IIS Dammam, IIS Jubail, Al-Khozam International School, Al-Khobar, and Modern International School, Al-Hassa, will attend the workshop. The officials will also meet the parents of class IX and XII students in an effort to educate them on the CCE process. The delegation will visit other international Indian schools in Riyadh and Jeddah and conduct workshops during their stay in the Kingdom.
