More than 200 members of the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) attended the fifth meeting of the general assembly held at the Weston Hotel here on Thursday. Led by Abdullah Al-Turki, General Secretary of IIRO and president of the assembly, the members who came from different countries discussed relief issues and approved the final accounts of the fiscal year 2009. They also reviewed the comprehensive performance report of the organization's programs and projects and approved new assembly members. In his opening address, Dr. Al-Turki said that the IIRO cannot fulfill its mission without the coordination of its members. He assured the assembly that Saudi Arabia is keen to develop coordination between the Muslim and non-Muslim countries when it comes to humanitarian issues. “There are obstacles which we should avoid by using all possible legitimate means,” said Al-Turki, adding that “the IIRO's contribution to the assistance of people around the world is undeniable and clear”. The members attending the general assembly viewed commercial tower projects that will help to finance the organization's medical, educational and orphan sponsoring programs. Three of these projects are located in Makkah and one of them, developed at a cost of more than SR 31 million, and is ready to be opened.
