Madonna and her daughter Lourdes Leon in New York Dec. 15, 2009. – Reuters Madonna has initiated her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes into life as a Material Girl, with the pair collaborating on a fashion line for juniors to be launched in July. The “Material Girl” collection will be available at Macys and macys.com from late July in time for the new school year, according to a statement on Madonna's website. The American singer, 51, said she had really enjoyed designing a fashion collection for Swedish fashion chain H&M three years ago but it was her daughter Lourdes, nicknamed Lola, who really wanted to do this collection. “I've been involved in business meetings, but Lola's really doing the work. I just sit in the corner on my BlackBerry!” Madonna told Us Weekly magazine in an interview to hit the newsstands on Wednesday. Madonna said her daughter's style was “inspired by kids she sees in hip-hop and ballet classes, European influences, bands she listens to”.”You could say it's in the DNA - but I could never tell her how to dress!” said Madonna. “She also comes to my photo and video shoots, pulls outfits together and gives her input to a lot of my fashion-designer friends. Whether it's Marc Jacobs or Stella McCartney, they always ask her what she thinks.”- The Material Girl collection includes jeans, shoes, fingerless gloves, necklaces and other accessories. Many of the pieces are inspired by Madonna and her daughter's dance roots. Madonna admits she wishes her teenage daughter would dress “more conservatively”. She hopes Lourdes will not follow in her risqué sartorial steps. She said: “If anything, I wish she'd dress more conservatively. How's that for irony?” Madonna added: “I did a line for H&M, which I enjoyed, but it was a lot of work. I thought, I don't want to give up the rest of my careers, so I'm not going to do my own line again. “But I have a 13-year-old with tireless energy who wanted to do this. Lola has been bothering me for ages about designing clothes. Stella McCartney is a good friend of mine and she got her mind thinking when Lola was a little girl, about eight years old. She started giving Lola fabrics and inviting her into her showroom and asking her opinion on things, giving her sketch books and stuff like that. Stella always pushed her. I have a lot of friends who are clothing designers whether it is Gaultier or Dolce and Gabbana. (Lola) has been around all of the shoots I have done and all of the campaigns I have done. She is always hanging out backstage. The last two tours I have done, she has been working in the wardrobe department. On this last tour she dressed all of the dancers, Madonna told to Associated Press in an interview. It is good to work with my daughter because she does have good taste in fashion. I respect her taste and I rarely disagree with her.
