Emma Thompson as a 1940s supernanny has ended the three-week reign of Alice in Wonderland at the top of the UK box office, according to Screen International on Tuesday. “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang,” with Thompson riding to the rescue of harassed mum Maggie Gyllenhaal, took 2.58 million pounds on its debut weekend. “Alice in Wonderland,” director Tim Burton's version of the classic Lewis Carroll fantasy with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, was down in second spot after taking another 2.49 million pounds in its fourth weekend to raise its total to 34.8 million. “The Blind Side” made its debut at three with Sandra Bullock, who won Best Actress at the Oscars this month for her role in the film as a mother who turns a disadvantaged teenager into a football star.
