Afzal and Shad excel with centuries

Magnificent tons by Afzal of Al-Saudi and Shad of Usman Gems Green were the highlights of the 6th week matches in the Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) here.
Despite Afzal's century Al-Saudi XI lost to My Care Hala, Zultec had the last laugh against AOT Sonex, and Fine Sweets won against Usman Gems in the Premier League whereas in the Afternoon Division SG Baroom, Alamas, Fuch Hamrani and GCI won their matches.
In the Premier League, Al-Saudi XI piled up 219 through Afzal's 142 with 3 sixes and 18 fours. Abdul Qayyum took 3-38. My Care Hala chasing this imposing total was home with 221-5, thanks to a 77 by Shahbaz and 62 by Kashif.
Captain Anis Mallik played a masterful innings of 93 and Abdullah hit 85 to put Zultec on 227-3. AOT Sonex, chasing this mammoth total, fell short by 26 runs. Naeem Shah excelled with 60. Salim, Anis Malik and Hussain Bhatti took 2 wickets each.
Fine Sweets put up a moderate 177 as Gazzafi made 65 in 40 balls. In reply, Usman Gems was stranded at 152-9. Junaid made a valiant effort with 70. Naseer took 3-28, Akram 3-25 and Afzal 2.
In the Afternoon Division, Nestle Mylo put up 185-6 as Umar with 13 fours made 90. SG Baroom in response achieved the target in 17.1 overs with 186-5. Saeed hit 2 sixes and 12 fours in his 68.
Pak Kashmir, batting first came up with 146-3 through Qayyum (54). Prakash took 2-34. Alamas hit back with 149-3. Mushtaq blasted 51 in 28 balls.
MCC piled up 172-9 against Fuchs Hamrani. Owais hit 50 and Yunus Khan 42. Irfan Sr. claimed 2-20. Fuchs Hamrani reached the target in just 93 balls with 6 wickets in hand. Khubaan made 53. Khalid of MCC took 2-14.
Gulf Cooperative Insurance batting first against UG Eagles blasted 192-4 as captain Ayaz Jafri smashed 67 and Pervaiz made 44. Usman Gems Eagles in reply were bundled out for 113.
In the Morning Tournament, Shad of Usman Gems single handedly downed Elaf Engg. in other matches, Attieh Steel, Hala International School, Johnson Control, and ATS emerged winners.
Shad remained unbeaten on 171 with 11 sixes and 14 fours to rack up 238-3 and Elaf Engineering was restricted to 179-7. Shah made 39. Mazhar took 3-14 and Munawwer 2-29.
Usman Gems were restricted to 101-7 as Moeed of ATS scalped 2-8 and Adil took 2-24. ATS in reply achieved 106-3 with Moeed scoring 58 not out.
Johnson Control scored 167-7 with captain Farrukh Shahbaz making 63. Ataurehman, Jamil and Imran took 2 wickets each. My Care Hala Green, in reply, was stranded at 158-9. Habib made 45. Amjad and Saeed got 2 wickets each.
Universal Coil stroked 188-9 as Yusuf made 67. Shehab, Ali Zaman and Emad scalped 2 wickets each. In reply, Hala International School's Akram scored an unbeaten 96 and Emad remained unbeaten on 66. Their unbroken stand was worth 140 that earned them victory.
AOT Green, batting first, made 116-7. Faiyyaz and Moazzam took 2 wickets each. Attieh Steel, in reply, was home with 117-7 despite Arshad grabbing 4
