At least 13 scheduled surgeries were canceled at King Abdul Aziz Hospital here Tuesday following a strike by cleaning workers over non-payment of their wages. The workers, who have not received their monthly pay from their contracted company for five months, refused to clean the operating theaters. Muhammad Bakhesh, director of the hospital, convinced the workers not to proceed with their protest and promised them that their money would be paid by their company. As a result most of the workers returned to work. Bakhesh said the hospital administration has taken legal action against the contracted company. He warned that a further delay in the payment of wages would jeopardize its contract with the hospital.
