Suzuki Jimny sets new Guinness world record
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 28 - 03 - 2010

Raring to go where others fail.JEDDAH - The Suzuki Jimny continues to maintain its supremacy as a mini off-roader in Saudi Arabia. The Jimny's latest claim to global fame is its entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for reaching a record height of 6,688 meters on top of the Andes Mountains in South America.
Originally launched in the global markets as the LJ-series in the 1960s, the Jimny is Suzuki's initial attempt at creating a 4x4 vehicle that could handle both rough terrain and city driving. This all-around model is perfect for youthful adventurers who like cross-country travel.
The off-roader can outperform its larger counterparts in terms of maneuverability due to its short wheelbase and low kerb weight.
Its strategically positioned seating and responsive control steering enable the driver to navigate around obstacles with confidence and ease. A rigid three-section design ensures stability and effective shock absorption, while a capable M13A Double Overhead Camshaft four-cylinder petrol engine makes for quick response and high fuel efficiency. The “M” family engines produced by Suzuki vary from 1.3 to 1.8 liters.
The Jimny's distinct 4x4 look is accentuated by tinted glass, front fog lamps, and a solid spare wheel cover.
Inside, occupants are treated to the comforts of power steering, front electric windows, remote door locking, heated electric door mirrors, and a radio and CD player.
Safety is also an overarching theme throughout the vehicle: all units include driver and front-passenger airbags; side impact protection beams; height-adjustable front seatbelts with pre-tensioners; and an anti-locking braking system.
In addition, a Load Sensing Proportioning Valve helps prevent premature locking of rear wheels during sudden braking and enhances braking power during full loads.
Despite its small size and its 1200 cc engine, the Jimny is uniquely positioned in an automobile class that is projected to grow further in the Saudi market. Its distinctive design has not changed, allowing Suzuki to maintain its reasonable price and thus making the vehicle accessible to everyone.
