King Saud University's Riyadh Techno Valley (RTV) will launch next month its first workshop on generating and launching science and technology companies that can boost the Kingdom's economy and its international competitiveness. The RTV is a research park at the university which had been developed to attract local and global investment in the field of science and technology, which will in turn help to develop the Kingdom into a knowledge-based economy. The workshop will include a review of international experiences in setting up technology companies. In addition, delegates are expected to discuss the best methods to transfer technology. A review of the RTV's experience will be undertaken and it will also look at ways to fund projects in the RTV. Other topics likely to be discussed include the funding of high-tech companies and the important links between research, development and marketing. The workshop comes after the KSU started a new plan to launch a number of knowledge-based technology companies. Through the RTV, the university aims to develop the inventions of students and researchers at the country's universities.
