The Jeddah Mayoralty has lifted a ban on Danish beef in the city's grocery stores. The ban lift was prompted by orders from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, said Bashir Abu Najem, head of trade control at the mayoralty. The ban lift was based on information from the World Organization for Animal Health Danish cattle were disease-free. The temporary ban was imposed on all Danish ground beef products from cattle under 30 months of age after the outbreak of mad cow disease in Denmark. The re-opening of the market to Danish beef reflected intensive efforts at political, diplomatic and technical levels. Last January, the Kingdom and Denmark signed an agreement lifting ban on Danish beef during the visit of Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik André Henrik Christian to the Kingdom.
